Kim Min-jung - Layers of Time Built with Paper and Fire
These mysterious works are from Kim Min-jung's "Phasing" series. Born in Gwangju, she developed her unique artistic vision across Europe and America for over 20 years.

These aren't simply paintings to view—can you feel something layered rather than flat? Korean paper (hanji) is central to Kim's work. To her, hanji isn't just material but skin wrapping around life itself.

Her process is distinctive. She draws quickly with ink, then layers thin hanji sheets and burns them with incense sticks. Fire carves lines—traces of both order and chance, memory and wound.

This isn't mere technique but performative practice accumulating time. Through repetitive actions, she creates quiet healing rituals. Like the title "Phasing," images gradually change and overlap, creating layers where time and sensation stack.

Kim's work combines Eastern traditional materials with Western abstract expression, creating entirely new sculptural language based on hanji, fire, and ink.
